The boxed steel frame and suspension systems were adapted from the 120-Series Toyota Prado. The FJ Cruiser concept, created by Calty Design Research in Newport Beach, California, was first shown at Detroit’s auto show in 2003, and was then developed as a production vehicle. Over time, in the United States, it turned into a heavy, expensive, but still capable semi-luxury SUV.
